    Hello

Been reading this forum for a few days whilst I tried to find the right A4 for me. I've finally found one but would like your advice please as to whether it is overpriced or not.

It is a mauritius blue 07 A4 S-Line 170PS 2.0 TDI with 14.5k on the clock and listed for £17.5k at a dealer.

I've pasted the spec below but am just conscious that there is less than a year's warranty left, though the mileage seems low which is good!

Any other advice would be most appreciated.

    Thanks.

Sounds a good spec- be interesting to see what the birch wood inlays look like, most A4s came with the aluminium effect inlays.

Similar to my A4 spec in the fact it has cruise/BOSE/parking sensors etc.

I'm guessing it's not an Avant (estate), I woud check out the Special Editions as these have leather interior as well.

I read that Audi were doing a 2 year extended warranty on Approved Used cars but maybe this offer is no longer on.

Looks like a good clean example though, time to barter on the price if you want it, I found when I was buying mine I told the dealer that there was a private seller selling similar but with more gear i.e. 18" wheels, privacy glass etc. The dealer then offered to fit these as part of the deal

PS: I went with the private sale though in the end.

    Hi kodkod

Thanks for the feedback - yeah its a saloon.

I see what you mean about the birch finishing. Didn't really think about that after seeing it has all extras I want - cruise control and parking sensors.

Looks OK I suppose on the picture though real-life may be different - a Rover may spring to mind!

I will try find a similar car elsewhere and try use that has leverage, though I've been looking a while and haven't come across anything.

Have you tried pistonheads.com? Usually a fair selection of A4s on there.

You can change the inlays if you don't like the birch ones, I'm not sure how much all the bits are though but you can get silver/black/carbon fibre!

Just to give you some context I bought mine for 17 privately with 14K on the clock but that was a year ago.

    170bhp
    BT
    BOSE
    18" RS6 Wheels
    MFSW
    Leather

It's essentially a special edition in all but name (no chrome RS style pedals or black optics pack or RS4 style wheels, only difference)

Hence I think it's overpriced but you pay a premium at the ********.

    Hi superleeds,

That sounds a grand or two overpriced but mine was £17k 8 months ago and with less kit than that. However it only had 9000 on the clock and had MFSW with the RNS-E satnav and phone prep stuff plus 18s.

Since then I have had SDS, cruise control and rear sensor fitted for about £500 so now its as good as the perfect spec really just lacking the TV upgrade

So maybe think about retro fitting some parts to save alot of money on both the kit and the car its self. All the parts I used were proper Audi parts and fitted by Hazzydays who came out to my office and did it all in 4 hours!

    Cheers
    Russ

Oh and well done on looking to buy an ace car. I love mine! The best car I have owned so far!

    Thanks for the info guys.

I was thinking about getting a lesser spec and then building up as it may be a lot cheaper! I see I can get my desirables - cruise and parking sensors - fitted retro for not so much (I hope) but the other main thing I am looking for having read this forum is the 170PS and S Line version. I guess you can't really retro S Line but how about changing a 143PS to 170?

Probably opening a world of hurt here but is this what one would call a remap? Wouldn't the suspension etc also have to be change if I did this?

This Special Edition that has been mentioned a couple of times..... I take it that's not an SE as I'm sure I have seen S Line Special Editions??

    Thanks, again.

Hey Leeds- a good idea to also get a model without some gadgets and then retrofit, it's quite addictive adding bits and bobs to your car!!

You can remap a 143ps but unsure of the power upgrade, you won't need to change the suspension though. Also the 170ps has cooler tail pipes, one on each side.

The S-Line Special Edition is sometimes called the S-Line SE, this is different to normal SE spec which you will see.

There are two versions of the Special Edition S-Line:

v1: 18" 15 spoke DTM alloys, black headlining, S-Line MFSW, Punched air leather gear knob, S-Line embossed Volterra two-tone leather seats, black exhaust tailpipes. Engines were uprated to 220ps on the 2.0T FSI and 170ps on the 2.0TDI

Example of this model is in my profile.

v2: Released later on same as v1 but with 18" RS4 alloys, black optic pack (black grille frame, black window strips, black roof rails on Avant). Alcantara gear knob and alcantara MFSW and RS4 pedals I think.

This is getting more and more complicated! I think I'll do my best to get the 170PS Sline as standard and then go from there - seeing as its about £500 (?) for cruise and parking sensors.

Plus I'm sure there's plenty of insurance wranglings with changing to a 170!

What's the consensus of buying from a dealer and buying private? I understand you get a 1 year guarantee with roadside from the dealer??

Well well well you've got the bug.

I understand. I researched for about 9 months before I made the plunge.

You are correct - the SE references here will be about sline special edition.
Also correct in that a remap will get your 140 to a 170 bhp.

I beleive the 170 has a different clutch to handle the extra power, you can actually get this remapped too.

There seems to be a raft of late model 170's about so if I were you I'd get the native 170 rather than remap and spend the extra on adding your toys. I think the 170 will command a higher value on resale rather than a remapped 140 (which will raise concerns with a subsequent buyer and will probably invalidate your insurance, if they found out)
