I got myself a 06 2L 140 DSG TDI Comfortline Passat last week and I'm loving it (aside from the better handling and extra power, it's a lot more comfortable... I thought cruise control would be a waste on an auto - I was wrong! ), but one thing it's missing, and which my 02 Comfortline Passat had, was the ability to change the information displayed on the dash (I'm thinking specifically MPG, miles left based on the fuel in the tank etc).

The manual makes reference to all sorts of things that can be changed if the car has a multi-function wheel and/or buttons on the wiper stalk (which my new one doesn't), so i'm wondering is it possible to retrofit a wheel (stereo controls would be nice anyway!) or would I need the Highline computer as well? Failing this, I assume VAG COM would do all this for me?

Semi-related: I bought a RCD-500 6-disc MP3 changer from ebay last week (arrived today) to replace the basic Radio/CD the car comes with. On my B5 passat, changing these was fairly easy but the B6 dash doesn't look as straightforward and I'm especially worried about my fancy wood trim .

Is it possible to swap these out myself without dismantling the whole dash (I found a link on another forum here for doing this in a Golf and it looks like a big job), or am I better off letting my local VW dealer do it (10/20 minutes he reckons)

Cheers!
