posted in the 100+ section due to details of speed.

finish the sentence basically you can only give one example of a days driving.

my car ran superbly well yesterday from coventry to wembley stadium and also on the return leg.

average speed each way was 80 mph, hardly dipped below 100 coming home.

wembley to home was 1h20 mins including a wrong turn and a diversion in london.

the car was faultless, smooth, effortless, consistent.

Ah, the joys of being childless

Now you're a father it's down to 50 mph max, all the while eyeing up every other driver as though they are going to do something stupid.

You feel as though your car is suddenly transporting the most valuable cargo known to man.
Nothing to see here, move along..

I'd have to correct you to "The joys of driving alone". My car often has a speed limiter sitting in the passenger seat. "Can you slow down a bit!" "80 is fast enough". no matter how many times I explain that an indicated 80 is actually only 75.

Have the same problematic speed limiter in my car. ESP is also a voice generated alarm the volume of which normally goes up when taking corners at speed, along the lines of Warning Valuable Cargo Onboard not a sack of potatos.

    meh...

I ditched speeding ages ago, I'm such a geek I like to watch my tank range climb...and climb....and climb....and climb..... 250 miles out of a reported quarter tank (approx 4 gallons) best so far.

obviously, the downside is of being on your own and watching this is the inability to take photographic evidence.

On topic, back when I had the golf and <cough> may have pushed my luck a little, I did Manchester to Towyn in just under an hour.

Lol... in my case, its often a voice controlled accelerator in the passenger seat. She's only happy when I boot it into tripple digits...

I did Northwich (Cheshire) to Paignton (Devon) (My folks live there, hence a drive I've done quite a lot) in 3hrs 45 once! It usually takes about 5 hrs. Wasn't in the mood for a long drive that day!

One boxing day in the late eighties the landlord of our local pub was fed up with our bored faces and gave us his car keys so that we could go and watch Chelsea play Forest up in Nottingham. The trip home was under 2 hours back to Maidstone. We also went to another pub for a couple of hours in Maidstone before returning his car so that he didnt realise what a hammering it took. His 1.3GL Astra never ran the same again.
