Hi, in the hope that you guys might have seen this.

2008 SE. I recently noticed a large amount of water gathered in the bottom of the boot under the spare wheel. I have no idea where it came from. I can't be from underneath as it seems to be a plastic sealed unit around the base and anyway, if it came from there, gravity would have driven it out. If it was from the top, I would have expected some damp areas around the carpeted areas in the boot, but all there is completely dry.

    A complete mistery.

I have dried it up and took several towles and spnge squezzes to clear it.

Still under warrantly, but a few thousand miles to the next service, so I just thought that it might be a known problem and you knowledgable guys might beable to help.

    Thanks in advance. Mark

I wonder if water is seeping through the rear quarter panel join, and finding its way under the boot liner.

Is water ingress covered on the warranty? I've heard of water entering the cabin, but not the spare wheel area.

You could always remove the boot liner and spare wheel, then use a watering can or hose to wash down the rear of the car, then see if you can see any drips..

Take it to the dealer it shouldn't do that, must be getting in past a seal or panel join. I would have thought there would be a drain hole at the lowest point as well or don't they do that any more?

I had the exact same problem, and it was a faulty boot seal. Check your back seat was well, mine was soaking underneath!

Took it into VW, left it for 2 days and all sorted now

Blimey you were right. Just booked it in for a service (2 hours) at the same time, will they have a look at the water leak. They say they need to keep it four days !!!

Oh well, there's no rush, so I have booked it for 1st week in August with a Courtesy car.

Look out for postings on the joys of travelling Manchester/Newcastle/Oxford in a VW Polo.

Now fixed under warranty. They say they replaced a boot strut seal. Too early yet to tell whether it is properly fixed.
