    hi all
am the proud owner of a 1.4 s-line sportback, covered just over 3000 miles from new now and loving the car but cant seem to get anyway near the claimed mpg figures even having a light right foot!!
just done a 300 mile journey of mainly dual carriagway and motorway and the trip computer says average mpg for the journey is 40mpg , thats averaging around 70-75 mph. around town i get around 34 mpg. I havent yet proved this by working out the fuel consumption myself but the figures (according to the trip comp) are a little down on what i was expecting. on the above said journey our old bmw mini 1.6 could manage 44 mpg!
I do get slightly better mpg using super unleaded.

are any fellow 1.4 tfsi owners getting better than this or is it about right?
maybe I am expecting a little too much as the last audi I owned was a 2.0tdi?

Albeit on the 2.0T I see a fairly big difference in economy from 65 to say 75, so that might be a factor.

Also you will see improvements as the engine beds in.

agree, it makes a big difference if you do 70 as opposed to 80!
at what mileage is an engine considered "run in" these days??

Real world - done about 25k in ours (1.4 s-line sback) atm and getting about the same as your good self.

I too was a little disappointed with the economy, but i suppose to shift a big heavy car like that it is gonna drink a bit.

8 months in, about 6000 miles on the clock and our figures are very much in line with yours. Nowhere near the claimed figures but at the end of the day 40 mpg on a run from a 1.4T engine offering 122 bhp probably isn't that bad (and interesting to note that other VW group cars with this engine seems to claim lower figures e.g. typically 42 combined)
We have managed to get 44-45 on rare occasions but that has been by following the gear change indicator in the DIS rigorously at which point the car has absolutely no performance since you are changing up so early.
