    Hi,

    I've got a 2002 A6 1.9tdi - a UK car.

Am thinking of taking it back home to Australia. The car is so economical, and comfortable, and I reckon it would be good over there.

My question relates to the "hot country" option on these cars. The 1.9tdi I don't think was ever offered in Aus (I don't think any diesel Audi was in the early 2000's).

What could be different? Bigger radiator? Bigger intercooler? Any other ideas? I realise the car is high mileage, and might not be the best to take over - so I need to think about that, but am still interested in what makes up the hot country option, and maybe if anyone has insight into why Audi didn't offer the diesel (and esp the very economical 1.9tdi) in Australia.

I don't think it will matter but don't know if there were any mods for a hotter climate though.

But if you compare parts of Southern Europe like Spain and Southern Italy, the 1.9TDI quite happily exists. Probably not quite as hot as Aus but not far away.

Also any TDI is very thermally efficient and in most conditions will not reach operating temp sat at idle.

Also if the worse came to the worse on the A6 there is bags of room in front of the rad to fit 1 or 2 extra aux electric fans.

Yeah, I figured if it exists in Spain, Italy etc, it should be fine.

There is an option code: "8Z5 = Not hot country" on my car, so there must be few things different. I'm visiting in a couple of months, so might go pick a dealer's brain....

I've noticed in a few Aussie reviews that apparently the Aussies are reluctant to accept diesel cars. I spose that is true. Its just that I have had such a good experience with this car, so have been converted I spose!

Good point Col re: the room in the nose of the car.

If diesel is not popular in passenger cars in Aus is high quality low sulphur fuel available as it is here ?

Oh yes, defo. There are newer diesels - from say 2005 onwards, that are more popular.

Whaddaya sayin? Doubtin the quality of our fuel!? ;-p

No, I think we were slow to accept the diesels, cause we like our big cars, with big engines. My little bro's all drive 5.2 litre Chryslers and my little sister commutes in a 3.8 litre V6 Commodore.

"only milk and juice come in 2 litres".....
