    Hi all,

My 2002 has been misfiring for a while intermittently in multiple cylinders. Coil packs, spark plugs and the wire harness to the coil plugs have all been replaced but the misfiring continues. I removed the air intake hose to see if the throttle has been blocked, which appears ok , but I noticed a lot of oil in the hose. Is this normal? If not where could this oil be coming rom and how to stop it? Does anyone think this could be the cause of misfire?

    Thanks,

    Zen

    Crasher,

    The engine code is: 3B0 907 557 R

The latest fault code is (one of among many, becaue it got cleared several times before):

    16684 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
    P0300 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded
    16685 - Cylinder 1: Misfire Detected
    P0301 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded
    16686 - Cylinder 2: Misfire Detected
    P0302 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded

    Thanks,

    Zen

3B0 907 557 R is the engine control unit number but from that I can see your engine code is ALT.

Carefully check the breather tube to the bleeder valve and the air inlet tube for any signs of splitting. The lower section is very awkward to get at to examine without removing it.
