Hey guys, I know JC from Top Gear did this a while ago in an A8 Tdi, from London to Edinburgh and back......around 800 miles.
Here's my scenario - A6 2.0 tdi with a full tank of fuel. Left Cumbernauld early doors (4am) and headed for Theale, nr Reading and just outside London. My boot was full of gear probably equivalent to carrying a teenage passenger I guess. Mostly motorway driving on cruise at around 80mph until I got to Leeds ( major hold up due to accident meant I was sitting in traffic for an hour and a half and it affected my fuel economy big time. As I was late I booted it for a while at around 100+ and got my colleague picked up at Derby, and on to Theale again at around 80mph.
On the way home dropped my colleague off at Derby and then onto Stoke via the A50 ( as there were still major problems on the M1 seemingly )
I filled up at Stoke with the dash showing 637 miles travelled and 90 still in the tank under the same driving conditions - a total of 727 miles
When I filled up and checked the computer told me I could espect 915 miles if I used the same driving style.

I fully believe that if I emptied the boot and drove around at 60mph on mostly motorways I could achieve in excess of around 800 miles every tank....lol
God it'd be so boring though

Anyways......just thought I'd share it with you

    All the best

I recently undertook a journey from Basingstoke-Blackpool-Aberdeen, then the return was Aberdeen-Blackpool.

Round trip was over 1,100 miles.

Car was absolutely fully loaded (1.9 TDi 130 Avant), couldn't even see a bit out of the rear. Handling was interesting with so much in the boot.

The car is a bit of a wind up - regardless of how I drive it, where I drive it, its averaging about 48mpg, and I'm getting to 600 miles before having to fill it.

But I agree, if it was just me, sitting with cruise at 60-70mph, I'd figure it'd get an easy 800 miles on a steady run.

hi clonmult, some nice figures there mate.

as for my trip, please don't misunderstand, I was on my own ( with a boot full to capacity ) from Glasgow to Derby. From Derby to London and back to Derby there was one big 6'6" lump sitting in the passenger seat

From what it seems the 1.9tdi was far *more* efficient than the 2.0 ?! :P

I have a 2.0tdi multitronic and recently drove from Glasgow to a small village in Fife, only 100mi or so but the roads were relatively clear and averaged around 42mpg on the way there and 38mpg on the way back (although got home a fair bit faster )

My old 4MOTION Passat 1.9TDI (remapped) would regularly do that journey nearer 50mpg and somehow ozskins above is getting 57!? :P

I know the multitronic will affect the mpg slightly, but I must confess I expected slighly more than high 30s !

That does seem particularly low - more like the levels you'd expect from the 2.5 diesel?

I've just done an airport run - in laws and her kids, boot absolutely chocker (as always?), something like a 100 mile round trip from home->airport->work, fair bit of the M25, and its gone and averaged over 55mpg. Okay, I was taking it easy - 80 on the way there where possible, and 60-70 after dropping them off.

I'm finding that using the cruise where possible definitely improves economy - especially helpful on downhill sections, click it to off, cruise getting either 200/--- mpg, and the average stays high.

I've wondered about the fuel consumption ever since I got it... but the best the local Audi dealership could come up with after looking at it was that the fuel filter looked like it needed replacing :/

The 2.0 tdi is no where near as good as the 1.9 tdi for economy, for whatever reason I don't know.

I used to own a 1.9tdi passat and my record from a tank was 824 miles, but I still think it would have been possible to get 1000 from it and it has a smaller tank than the Audi.

I believe, that an old 100 1.9tdi holds the UK record for the most miles from a tank of fuel and I believe it was something like 1300 miles from a tank. That is something like 75mpg... I did once do 70mpg from a Golf 1.9tdi.

    Keep trying!
