    My Passat 1.9TDi 110 51 reg has had poor air conditioning since I bought it last year.

    The problem is when the temperature is selected to "lo" or Auto 18 the airflow from the vents is not as cold as my last Passat and the cabin temp does not reduce as quickly.

    The air con compressor runs the alloy tubes running into the cabin next to the pollen filter, one cold with condensed water collecting on it and the other is warmer.

    I have the dreaded Airflow Flap positioning motor V71 static Faulty code 01274-037 and I have checked visually and the flap never moves from the fresh air position. (Never gets to Recirc)

    I have used one or those diy air con chargers but only connected it and the pressure is in the 25 to 45 psi" blue do not add refrigerant band."

    Question 1: Should the fan on the drivers side be running in the with auto or lo selected on the climate panel?

    Question 2 : Do I need an air con system service. If so any recommendations in the Crewe - Stoke on Trent Area

    Question 3 : Will the V71 fault cause this problem, I know if it was in recirculation the the temp would drop quicker, but my issue is the air is just not cold enough to start with.

    Regards

    Andy

    Been having problems myself too (https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...ad.php?t=72916)

    When you say fan on the drivers side, do you mean the fan on the radiator?

    Is your problem that it wont hold the temperature in auto?

    Firstly for now forget about vent temperatures, put to "LO" and put your Climatronic into Diagnostic mode (Econ, cold, and fan slower button)

    Using red and blue buttons have a look at no 40 (Evaporator Temp) and see what its reading. I get 2c under light cooling to 8c under very heavy cooling)

    Then I would look at 23 (Vent Temperature Actual) and see what that reads. If you can get a temperature guage to see if they match that would be great.

    Now switch to Number 1 (Cabin Temp) and see if it drops, and if it matches a temperature guage.

    When did you last change the pollen filter?

    If you can get this info we could start looking for reason.

    Not cured mine yet either, still working through it.

    Thanks for the info Timbo will get back with the results.

    Drivers side radiator fan is 330kohms .
    So that's why it isn't working as it has 13'5 volts connected to it when the engine is running and "lo" selected.

    I have checked my wives "W" reg Passat and both pipes next to the pollen filter are very cold not like my one only?

    Yes the pollen filter has been replaced.

    Climatronic into Diagnostic mode:

    Results
    after 10 mins

    1= 29

    23= 7.5

    40= 20.5

    I also noted the other results up to number 40.

    If there is any more info required?

    Where you staionary? To be honest, if your fan is not working you will not cool efficiently whilst the car is slow moving or stood still. I would get the fan to work first . That maybe all it needs.

    Forgot to add, you sure number 40 is correct? I cannot see how you could have a vent temperature as good as 7.5c, whilst your evaporator is at 20c.

    Hi i have the same issue took mine to the dealer today after having kwik fit regas it, they say there is nothing wrong with the air con components and they think it may be a electrical fault, they want the car for a day to run though the wiring, as far as you fan is concerned mine runs all the time in auto its only off in econ so is my withs golf.
    let me know if you have any good replies with this.

    Cheers

    Timbo

    I was stationary during the test and yes number 40 is correct at 20.5 !

    I will replace the aux fan and then run the test again.

    I'll get the fan tomorrow and let you know.

    Thanks v6tdi for your input.

    Hello,
    My car also has poor air conditioning and shows a V71 fault, although there is no ticking noise.

    Does the V71 fault cause the air con to stop working, or is it the case that there is probably something else wrong with the system and the V71 is a red herring?

    A bit of history. . .
    Recently got the air con re-gassed as kwik fit. It did not get any cooler and they didn't charge me! The garage which serviced the car told me it had a code saying the Air con pressure switch had failed (could be F129). Could not get much more info on this - VW were next to useless. Anyway - plugged in a VAG-COM and reset the code. It now gives a V71 code. Am only using the shareware VAG-COM (409.1) so can only seem to get one code, and can't change the basic settings. Can't just throw money at this one

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Steve

    Check your part no. on VAGCAT or off the old fan, and I'll check where I got mine from mail order when I get home, these guys sold fans for all models. PM me if I forget. It came the next day and was 1/3rd of price of dealer for same item. (delaer wanted £175)

    Have you found the instructions on here of how to replace?
