The price seems high to me, but it depends on how good it is and how highly you rate this!

Certainly the VW dealers in my area have some very cheap headline prices £10k for 57 plate Sports, but on closer inspection they are all ex-rentals and a little rough around the edges (scuffed alloys, small dents. marks e.t.c). They have certainly had a hard life!

There are certainly some excellent deals and cars but sometimes it depends on how picky you are and whether you are willing to pay slightly more!

Thanks again for all replies and advice

I have decided to go with my instinct and part-ex my Golf for the Passat!

I've been searching far and wide, via VW dealer forecourts and the internet, and from what I've seen I don't think £10k is too bad a price. It's not the cheapest I've seen, nor is it the highest priced, but for what it is I think it's about right. Bearing in mind it has 10 months tax, 4 new (17") tyres which don't come cheap, one previous owner and the car was bought and serviced by the same VW dealer I'm buying it through.

I also noticed that the Passat is an insurance group 9, whereas my Golf is a group 13!

I could probably get a newer example for £10k elsewhere, but it won't buy peace of mind that the car has been looked after. It makes no difference to me when the car was registered, it's still the same spec as if I were to buy an '09 Passat Sport (excluding the transition to CR). I would much rather buy a well looked after car with 100k than a newer example that has been neglected and not looked after.

So, conclusively, I've made my decision and I pick it up tomorrow!

Thanks again for all the help and I look forward to crossing-over into the Passat community

I might post some photos tomorrow....

I am now the proud owner of a Passat Sport

Overall I'm very pleased with the car and it's definitely an upgrade on my MkV Golf TDI! It's a better car in all aspects IMO. Feels far more sturdy. It would be though as it was built in the true home of the Passat; the VW plant in Emden, Germany!

The only thing I'm not so happy about is the parking sensors: they seem a bit erratic. Is this normal or shall I take it back to get them looked at?

Sometimes when mine (factory fit ones) are soaked they play up, or covered in road grime. (both cases i just give them a quick wipe and it seems to sort it)

    Congratulations on your purchase!

Parking sensors are a known issue they corrode and become very erratic, I am on my third set!

By erratic I mean that they seem to have a life of their own and start randomly beeping, even if I am in an empty car park. The car was valeted by the dealer yesterday so maybe the sensors are suffering from water ingress. The 32 degree heat should dry them out today though

Yes, the PSs are factory fit.

I think I will take it back into the dealer at the weekend to get the parking sensors looked at. I also noticed that the spare key fob doesn't work. So, while I'm there I'll ask for a new battery and get it re-programmed, or whatever they need to do.

Apart from these two minor things, and the fact all my mates keep asking me "Where's your pipe and slippers?" (I'm 24 and apparently far too young to be driving a Passat), all is good
