I went into a VW dealer this morning to look at swapping cars. I saw a lovely looking Passat Saloon 2.0 TDI Sport on a '55 plate with 48k mileage for £9995.

    Spec:
    Manual 6-speed
Full leather interior with heated seats
    4 brand new tyres!
    Dual zone Climatronic
    Parking Sensors
    17" alloy wheels

I drove it and everything seems as it should. It really is a nice car and a world apart from my MK.5 Golf!

I need to let the dealer know first thing tomorrow morning whether I want it. Is £9995 a good price?

    Any help much appreciated.

Don't know that I can be much help as I bought a 57 plate 2.0 TDI Sport DSG with 19k miles on it six months ago for £10,500. Admittedly it doesn't have any options apart from the DSG and Black Magic paint.

However I think I got an amazing deal and I'm not sure I could get the same car for the same price again. I was in the right place at the right time.

That seems like daylight robbery! £10.5k for a '57 with just 19k! That's an excellent deal you got there by the sound of it!

Maybe the Passat I looked at today is averagely priced then? Absolutely stunning car though inside and out! So much nicer than my current Golf and with a higher spec, for less money!

I think I'm going to go for it....

why do you "have to let him know tomorrow"?
it will be there until it's sold surely?
don't let him rush you,you could find a lower mileage example,i'm sure.
not that there's anything wrong with 48k

Sorry - Is the above right? they want £10k for a 55 plate sport with full heated leather and parking sensors? NO CHANCE! (plus it sounds like they have a bit of attitude with that deadline rubbish!)

About 6 weeks ago I tried selling my 05 plate sport with heated leather and sensors for £8k - My car is immaculate and I am the 2nd owner, the first being a company. slightly more miles at 60k but has full main dealer service (Carrs at Indian Queens) including cambelt, aircon, brakes, and tyres just before I decided to sell.....Incidentally I couldn't bear parting with it so I kept it!

My point is I truly believe you can get much more for £10k, My pricing was the same as all the others at that time. I wish you well in your car hunt

x2. That's at least 1k over guide price. Don't pay extra for leather, park sensors, etc. Dealers don't give much, if any, extra on trade-in for them so don't line their pockets unnecessarily.

Try using the used car locator at www.vw.co.uk . You might be surprised just how many Passat Sports it turns up.

    Thanks for the replies.

The reason they need to know tomorrow is someone else is going to view it and I have first refusal.

Maybe I was mistaken in thinking that this car was cheap? My current car, a Golf GT TDI, is almost the same price as the Passat. According to the guide price £10k is about right, plus it has the extras included. They had 2 others there but both were higher priced, at about the same mileage, but basic spec.

I have been having a few problems with the Golf and plus I need 4 new tyres. To be honest I'll be glad to see the back of it!

Initially I went to the dealership to view an 07 Jetta but the Passat is a far better option in my opinion.

    Thanks again.

When it comes down to it, it's going to be your car. If you like the car and are happy with the price then go for it. Personally I'd try to knock another grand off. Don't be afraid to walk away, you'll be suprised how much that can knock off!!

Thats some good advice right there! It's deffo worth asking for a cheeky discount. If they start moaning about overheads and costs then remind them that a sale is better than no sale!
