About 2 weeks ago i ordered my new A3 Sportback for sept 1st delivery. Dealer called today and full of apologies said that basically the car wont be here until october as the factory is closing its production line for 3 weeks in august and the demand for the A3 sportback is so high at the moment they cant keep up with demand.

Dealer said he was calling other people and seemed sorry enough for the delay. On a plus note he did say that financed package ive agreed has been locked and cant be changed therefore im keeping my car an extra month at least and the down payment should increase but it cant so in effect i keep my car for longer yet am paying the same amount.

Has anyone else had this call today and whats the deal with delivery dates? He did say he would call in about a week when july's production starts so he can give me more information as to when it is due to arrive. Am i being a bit cynical and all this is rubbish and could be as simple as the dealers have forgot to order the car sooner?

Does the word 'Allocation' spring to mind? I hope it doesn't equate in your case. When I was talking directly to dealerships they would often mention this word and basically they were not able to over order cars based on their allocation. One dealership was happy to talk to me about buying one from them but would not be able to 'order' one until August since they had used up their allocation for the S3.. I haven't had a call yet but I hope your dealer hasn't over ordered based on their allocation, consequently bumping customers.

It may be totally unrelated but it is just a thought...

i hope not either though you never know....i was told the factory is behind production and demand for the sportback is so high that they cant make enough. He did mention that he would have a better idea once july's production starts as to when it might be. He never mentioned the word allocation but i will ask when he next calls.

Just wondered what other peoples experience is when it comes to delivery dates?

If you want to check that your car has been order ask for the Commission Number if you have on then there is not a allocation (Top draw order) problem.

Sportback is very popular and A3 continues to sell well every year. To get your factory ordered car in October due to factory being closed for 3 weeks seem right to me.

Has anyone got any idea on what i should specifically ask the dealer to ensure the car is ordered and not just a case of theyve used their allocation up?

Have you thought about ringing another dealership and show some interest in buying one, requesting information on lead time? It might give you an idea. As yet I still have not yet had a call to say it'll be delayed. I would expect your dealership will be keen on securing your car as soon as possible so they can recognise the revenue.

Not rang another dealers yet but im confident its not going to be too delayed as the deal ive put my deposit down means thats the price thats fixed and cannot be changed except if VAT went up for example. Therefore the longer i keep my current car the more i should be technically be paying for the new one as the trade in on my goes down and the balance to transfer to the new one goes up if that makes any sense?

Anyway he said the deal is locked therefore they cant change the figures which means i get to buy the car for cheaper than what i was going to p;ay for sept 1st delivery...every cloud and all that...

He said he will call in a couple of weeks so by then if ive got a few questions to fire at him then any help is always appreciated!
