My 08 model has developed an annoying noise (cross between a creak and a 'rubbing' noise) that seems to be coming from the top of the drivers door. Bit difficult to pin down when you're driving (can see it now, 'Dear Direct Line, crash was caused by me looking at the door instead of the road ) but it is related to road surface and disappears when that door's window is opened, even to give a few mm clearance.

Wondering if it is therefore something to do with the window seal/surround. Car will be going in for a service to the trusty dealer in a couple of months but noises are notoriously difficult to track down/sort....has anyone else suffered similar?

I also have this same spot but would describe as rattle / creak. It's only on bad road surfaces.

I answered this on a previous thread a few months ago. I had this fault and traced it to the panel below the light switch vibrating. The noise comes up the air vent and makes it sound like it comes from the A pillar / RH dashboard area. I solved the problem by stuffing some foam under the panel in the area just above the diagnostic port. You can check if this is your problem by pressing on the panel when you here the nois.

Hope this sorts it out. I found it very annoying and it took some time to locate

Thanks for the tip but sadly this noise is firmly from the door/B pillar area and is also related to window position. Drop the window even a few mm and it disappears.

One for the dealer to puzzle over.

I had the dealer look at this last week - upper drivers door panel. They thought it was the window rubber, they removed, and re-worked the rubber. The sheet states 'All now OK'. Unfortunately it is not.

The creaking on mine stops if you crack the window slightly and begins again when you close it. I think it is window rail rubbing inside the door panel. Will let you know if they track it down.

i have the same - it's worse when its damp

Audi put some silicon stuff in there and its still the same. Need to take it back to be fixed properly as its really annoying. Happens on all the windows not just the drivers

    Ditto for me,
I thought it was the door seal not the window seal as it's worse when the car is dirty, i thought it was some grit or grud between the seal and the bodywork as it sems to stop after i have cleaned the car.

My noise seems to disappear for a short while after the car has been travelling through rain....wonder if the water is 'easing' something?

Hi there...newbie here! Did anyone ever get to the bottom of this one? I have exactly the same problem. Sounds like the window is kinda shuffling (rather than rattling)...open the window the tiniest tiniest crack and it stops
it's really annoying and is better some days compared to others
when it's rained it does become a bit more squeaky rathet than shuffly...i'm glad to see it appears to be a common issue!
    many thanks - Matt
