    Hi all,

It has been getting a bit boring reading about how everyone buys a diesel and then drives it at 53.68 mph on the motorway, and then a bit faster on the weekend and get about 45-52 mpg

At risk of being shot down, I thought I would share my figures from my my 2.0 TFSI Q, S-tronic

    2000 miles, 20.1 MPG

    Thanks,

That's even lower than mine! 5300 miles and average is 27.1, although mine is a manual.

I didn't buy mine for the fuel economy, I needed a car with 4 doors and something quick enough to put a smile on my face!

I did a standing start and watched the mpg....it sat at 5.0 until I got into 3rd and stopped accelerating!

    Thanks,
*** and FFS, I was hoping for high 20's may be even low 30's for normal town driving...

Is that off the DIS or is it fill to fill / miles covered....

My Golf GTI managed 26/27 around town.

That is off DIS, mainly driven in S and Manual (never in D). Mix of Motorway and London driving

    2.0 TFSI FWD
    9000 miles
    DIS 2 MPG 29.8
Most my driving is single carriageway A roads with traffic lights, roundabouts etc..

If i drive it lightly I can get 40MPG from DIS 1 on a 5 mile journey to work (i know i should bike in)
I got 35.9 on DIS 1 on a 250 mile trip to wales. that includes the the M25 was VERY stop/start

    AIR Con is ALWAYS on!!!

Wow, 20.1 MPG. I get mid to high 50's, obviously the 143 diesel and keeping to the speed limts. 23 MPG from the wifes SLK 55 (28 on a run), 8 cylinders, 360 horses and whole lot of fun Diesel and petrol and perfect blend!

Whose "real world" are we in, here? If you live in a hilly area and do lots of short journeys then sure, you will struggle to better 20mpg. I have a regular short and mainly uphill run from train station to home and with the cold engine get around 15mpg (2.0T Avant Q manual). By contrast, I also do frequent 100 mile-plus runs on motorways and A roads, and in average traffic without hooning it past everyone at or below the speed limit I'll get more like 35.

But the point of the post is that if all this bothers you much, you should be in the diesel and not the 200+bhp petrol, right? Fair comment I guess - I'm happy I switched, even if my wallet isn't!

    Now that's better....

It's one thing getting 20 mpg if you can afford to chuck money away like that, But just think of the tyres you'll go through as well.

I use to drive my GTI (DSG) in 'D' most of the time, every now and then I would go for a 'play', But most of all I just liked pottering around town in it.
The looks from people (young lads mostly) I got gave me more of a smile than anything. It's the one thing that I shall really miss...

At 20mpg I would be spending £10k per year on fuel!!!!

No thanks, I'll stick to my "boring" diesel.........

I actually prefer diesel, I much prefer the huge dollops of torque you get with a Tdi......
