I have a audi 1.9 tdi on a 51 plate and it keeps cutting out!

i have replaced three MAF sensors with genuine audi ones and after a while it will come back again. it runs like its on three cylinders and has no power and then stalls.

when i disconnect the maf it runs better but puffs out black smoke and uses a lot of fuel but at least i can get it home and it runs! then the next day it will be all right when i connect t up again.

no lights have come on either, on the dash

after taking the turbo pipes off i noticed quite a bit of oil in the pipes and the intercooler and oil is coming out of a vacume valve thing just above the turbo ? is this normal? could it be the turbo going?

strange it does it only now and again. i have had it at audi and audi specailist and they said the vag com came up with nothing?

may have to sell if i dont get it sorted. i have just bought it too

could it be a turbo hose collasping?

    any help much appreciated

I had the same problem, My EGR valve was clogged up with soot.
Got it removed and cleaned all the gunk out, Ran perfect after that.

If the problem is there with the MAF connected then it certainly seems maf related, Can you tell me if the large black electrical connector (that connects to the MAF) is damaged or cracked in any way.

My connector casing was broken which the techie advised allows moisture to enter the electrical connector and over a long period of time can cause corrosion, Audi replaced the connector, part was £4, cost me £40 all together fitted. Also might be an idea trying some electrical switch cleaner, Before I got the connector replaced I sprayed some into the female end of the connector and reconnected and disconnected it afew times, The problem went away. (obviosly a temp fix)

It does sound very much like this issue. However Im no expert and can only share what I experienced. If you need any more detailed info let me know.

Would you say it sounds more like a misfire? I suspect it could be the wiring loom which feeds the injectors and sits under the rocker cover.

The replacement loom costs about £48 from Audi and will take an hour to replace.

I know when my connector was playing up.. the best way I could describe would be like a misfire.
