    Model GOLF RYDER (MK3)
    Engine Size 1391 cc
    Engine Model ABD

    Hi
    I need a little help.
I've replaced the thermostat on the above car and think I might have an airlock.

I did not empty the coolant as perhaps you should (just removed the hose at the thermostat housing) and have refilled the coolant to the correct levels. All runs fine apart from the fact that the coolant runs over the bottle when the fan cuts in and the hot blowers in the car are just pushing out cold air.

I've tried running the car with the coolant tank cap off and have squeezed the hoses, but this has not helped.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Sounds like a failed water pump or faulty coolant cap O ring. Why did you change the thermostat?

Sorry should have said that I have replaced the thermostat after I noticed a slight leak from the housing. Alls fine now, no leaks etc.

Before doing so I could have hot air blowing in the car, as well as cool air. The water pump is working as it is pumping coolant around. The coolant cap 'O' ring is fine as well.

I refilled the coolant and ran the car up to temperature. This caused the coolant to run out of the expansion thingy on the coolant bottle and the coolant level was then lower than the coolant bottle. So I refilled again and left the coolant cap off, ran the engine and squeezed the hose's, but with no luck as the problem happened again. One thing I did notice is that in the car when selecting hot on the blowers, it was only blowing cold.

That's what made me think it might be a possible airlock in the matrix.

EDIT: Could be right about the 'O' ring. Not sure about the fact that you cannot have hot air in the car.

Ok and cheers. I'll have a look at the 'O' ring though.

    Thank you Crasher.

It was the 'O' ring and looked exactly as the one in that picture you posted.

Still got no hot air from the blowers, but its summer time (hmmmm)

    Once again thanks
