Engine Management Light A4 TDi 130

Hi All. Im new to the Forum and am looking forward to any help with my first post. My wifes Audi A4 TDi 130 2004 year model has the engine management light on. The light turned itself off a couple of times by itself on a number of occasions. It is now permantly on. The engine ticks over at between 1100 and 1300 rpm after starting and returns to normal rpm at tick over after a while. The engine has little or no torque when moving away from rest at low rpm or at tickover. The acceleration has not been affected in any way. In fact both my friends and myself believe that the car is quicker especially at high engine revs. The car has covered 110000 miles. I hope to have access to diagnostic software - Launch - in a couple of weeks which should tell me precisely what is wrong. Meanwhile I presume that somebody out there can correctly diagnose the problem and put my mind at ease.

Many Thanks Paul. Im looking forward to using the Launch on the car myself. I have found it to be easy to use in the past using it on BMW E39 models. And its great to get the use of diagnostic software for free. So I can wait patiently.

Is it the light that looks like a pig-tail? Do your brake lights work?

Its the orange engine management light that looks like the shape of an engine when viewed from the side. All brake lights work
