After my marathon of oil leak chasing, I thought I had it - I've changed all four cam seals, the cam chain tensioner seal, the rocker cover gasket and the front crank seal - the top half of the motor is now bone dry so I'm quite chuffed.
    However.....
Now the car is back in daily use, it's leaking oil again - about a table spoon per day is dripping from the under tray and onto the road.
I pulled the belly pan and had a good look. The top end of the motor is dry all the way round, but the the sump and torque rod, as well as the right hand side of the block bottom face is very wet - just like before.
This tells me the major source of the leak hasn't ben addressed, which on the basis that the oil on the sump is coming from the front end of the motor, and the stuff from the torque rod is coming from where it mounts at the rear of the block after running backwards down the side of the block from front to rear, that either the crank seal is still leaking or the sump gasket is leaking too, from near the front.
As the leak is the same size as before, I'm guessing that the front crank seal isn't the cause, as I can't even be sure it was even leaking in the first place - I just changed it as a matter of course whilst the front end was appart. Therefore, as far as I can tell, the sump is the only thing left at the bottom of the block that can leak?
So - Haynes tells me to strip the car down to ebay sized chunks before I can even think about it, but I'm sure I've read that there are easier ways without having to lift the engine etc?
    Few questions....
    1) Does the LC HAVE to come forward again and why?
    2) Can't I just lower the subframe down and pull the sump off that way?
    3) How much of the subframe do I need to undo, and what bolts do I undo / what do I leave alone
    4) Someone suggested just pulling the subframe forwards out of the way with it still partially attached?
I basically need some advice about how to tackle this job without having to lift the motor.
    Any clues chaps?

You need engine supported from above so that you can undo mountings. Subframe can be undone and dropped front only. It's then a case of lifing engine/pulling subfame down until sump will come out.
