    Hi Guys,

First post so apologizes if this has been asked before...

I attempted to change the rear pads on my golf (1.6 FSI) on the weekend, but with no joy. I have always done this on all of my other cars with ease.

Brought the correct size pads from the dealer, and began to take the existing pads off. Released the hand brake, and pressure on the brakes by unscrewing the brake fluid cap. I then put the new pads in place but could not get the caliper around the pads. A quick bit of research I needed to compress the piston caliper using a a clamp. I didn't have one to hand so used a vice clamp, which seemed to work sufficiently.

Once I got it back as far as it would go, I tried to re fit it. This time is was about 4mm out and the caliper would still on go on. An hour or so trying and still no joy!! The caliper piston would not move.

So I am now at a loose end? Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

    James

the piston needs to be wound back using a wind back tool, or a clamp and something to wind the piston. if you have just pushed the piston back in, you may have broken the caliper.

Thanks for that, I will have a look for a clamp. Any suggestions on the best place to get one? Presumably all parts/ Halfords would be the best?

Many Thanks ( and I hope i haven't broken the caliper)

you van get a tool from any factors. they start from the windback cube, to the proper one, and dont cost that much. as long as your handbrake still works after, you should still be ok.
