    Hi Guys

Quick one. I completed the big break upgrade about 2 weeks ago. 288mm to 312mm. Since I now have the bigger carriers the 288 brake pad retaining spring wont go back on. Having examined the setup of the brakes I dont see the point in this sprin as the carrier and calliper hold the pad in place..

Do I need to get a bigger brake pad retaining sping or is it ok to drive without?

Please dont guess on this one if you dont really know the answer as dont want to be caught with no brakes anytime soon!

    Cheers!

    Gerry

The spring is there to prevent pad rattle so it is important but the part number for the spring on Golf 4 288’s and 312’s is the same, 4A0 615 269.

You clip it in to one hole and then into the other. I suppose it is OK to drive without it, can’t see any reason why not but then again, if it didn’t need it, why is it there…
