    Hi folks

    Just bought a 2003 Passat to replace a written-off much-loved earlier version. The climate control display on the newer one is in Fahrenheit, whereas the old one was Centigrade. Given that we're all modern and European, can anyone tell me how I change it from degF to degC?

    I have RTFMs but can't see it anywhere!

    Hello,

    What you should find is that the temp display in the climate control comes from the dash display?
    If so then it may be that you dash is coded for the USA where they use degF.
    Get you car connected to a VAG-COM and look in option 17 - Instruments.
    In there should be a value for the Coding.
    This will be something like 05115.
    05 = What optons are enabled
    1 = Region - 1 = Europe, 2 = USA (there are others)
    1 = 4 cylinder (assume 2 = 5 cyl and 3 = 6 cyl)
    5 = K number, always set to 5 = 4182.

    So, change the 3rd digit to a 1 and that should do it.

    Nick.

    Far simpler than that is to hold down Auto & Econ at the same time.

    Considering selling my VCDS KEY-USB interface. If you're interested please contact me via PM or email.

    Sam - thanks, worked as described
    Nick - also thanks for all your effort in describing a fix. Glad I didn't have to do it though. Even after 35 years in IT, I'm not sure I'm ready to hack a Passat!
