I have done a tilt and slide on a Golf 1 (identical set up) using an up to 87 Audi 80/90 panel and mechanism and bought a brand new (now obsolete) electric motor but it was hard work getting it to function how I wanted it.

No, same panel part number (191 877 071 A) for Golf 1 and Golf 2 (and Polo 82 to 94) and the Audi 80/90 type 81/85 has the same size panel as does the Scirocco 2 but the latter has a different curvature profile which does not suit the Golf 1 or 2. The blue one is Audi 80/90 and the Lousy, sorry Lhasa, green one is the original.

There used to be a kit by Electric Life which was sold by VAG UK but it went obsolete years ago.
