    I have an audi a4 06 plate auto/tiptronic.

about a year ago while driving in the fast lane on the m6 it lost transmission and i was lucky to be able to pull over onto the hard shoulder.

I turned the ignition off and restarted the car and was able to drive it. Took it to audi dealer (it was still under warranty) and they could find no fault.

The fault recurred yesterday and on taking it to the dealers they established that there was a problem with the auto gearbox and the cost of replacing the ecu(?) unit was £1200 and lo and behold as I have driven 60400 miles the car is out of warranty.

Has anyone experienced any similar problems? And any tips on how to get audi to pay. In my view the problem is serious as the car lost transmission doing 70 miles an hour on the motorway!

I cant say anything about the fault, however if you can prove that the car was checked a year ago for the same fault you must have a leg to stand on.
Point out that it was broken then and they done nothing to fix it which is why its happened again.
Unless you have plenty of persistence (and time) I'd be prepared to meet somewhere in the middle.
