hi all, just spent an hour reading posts after a search but cant find anything similar to our prob.

car is 56reg golf (october 2006) 1.4s. have got the car booked in to be looked at under warranty in just over a weeks time.

    after 22,000 miles we have:

rear door handle sticks, front brakes clunk (i suspect a sticking caliper) and one other very interemmitant fault.

when driving in 5th at around 45mph the car will suddenly lose all power

(as if engine has stalled, foot to floor on accelerator does nothing at all the car will just continue to slow down) the only way to restore power is by droping down a gear to 4th.

now this has happened only a handful of times in our ownership. maybe 6-7 times in the last 8 months.

ps it is not the car struggling as when drinving up a hill. it does it on flat roads and even going down hill. no pattern has emerged either.

As said above the car is booked in to be looked at, just hoping for a bit of info from those in the know in case they tell us "no fault were found on the fault reader" after having the car all day

especially as the waranty runs out in october want to get any nightmares sorted out now at vw's expense

sorry for the essay but all help greatly appreciated
    cheers

You are looking at a simple sensor replacement up to a new high pressure fuel pump. Either way, with the car reacting the way it is, there should be several DTC's referencing the issues.

What is essentially happening, is that the ecu is detecting an operating condition is doesn't like and is cutting spark to the engine for a period of time until the bad condition is cleared up.

The most common example is a lower amount of fuel pressure in the fuel rail than specified by the ecu. Once the variance becomes great enough, the ecu says "Let's slow down and get that rail pressure back up to where it needs to be." Once rail pressure is restored after a period of usually a few seconds, power returns.

thanks for a very quick reply with a load of info there, any idea if a fault code should have been stored? ps any links to threads on this fault
    cheers keith

oh pps what are DTC's - EDIT googled it (fault codes)
