Headlamp deflectors

I was in the UK recently without any form of deflector - didn't get flashed, although I did set the beam fairly low. Probably could have got away with it higher because there was only my wife and I and some luggage in the car.

Couldn't you aim your dipped beams at a wall and experiment?

Then again, if you're going to France, there are that many badly adjusted lights here that no one will notice yours.....

A somewhat "picky" friend of ours has said it's "illegal" to use our TomTom in France because it incorporates speed camera warning info. I've told him that's tripe, it would mean no car that came with a factory fitted satnav would be allowed on French roads, never mind cars with non-fixed satnavs.

I assume he's actually talking about in-car radar units, not flippin' TTs which happen to have European safety camera data loaded??

GPS detectors are allowed in France but are illegal to use in Switzerland

As rjb says. The warning signs for fixed radars are large enough, so there's no problem with GPS systems.

And as you say yourself, radar detectors are illegal. French police have been known to literally rip them out, plus any other sanctions they feel inclined to impose....
