Not all vehicles with this engine are affected by the campaign. Before a repair, the vehicle must be checked with the Service Online or Fish system, wether the chassis number is affected by the campaign

Your chassis number (2006 model year, built at Emden June 2005) puts the car in the build area for cars with the original failure prone balancer shaft module/oil pump although VW themselves are unsure as to when the new units were fitted in the 2006 model year but they put the date as during September 2005 production at the Emden plant.

Many thanks for taking the time to get this info for me. Much appreciated.

So, could I assume mine is OK, seeing as it was built in June 2005; 3 months before the faulty part was used?

If not, what would you, with your vast knowledge, suggest I do next? Should I follow this up with VW further? The dealer assured me it's been checked for recalls and it's all clear.

    Thanks again.

    Dan

According to the info I have, it was built three months before the better part was introduced.

I think you are the same as most of us Dan regards trying to find out if our cars are OK, it should be up to the makers to sort these problems out because they are the ones that know all about the problems.
Good luck with your car I hope it is one that is all clear.

    Thanks Norman.

I'm a bit gutted to be honest, I've only had the car for 6 weeks! It's a shame as I really like it too!

I will endeavour to reel-in as much info as I can get from VW. I will present here what info (if any) I can get for the benefit of everyone else in this situation.

On a side-note, I will also be asking about the fuel pump and whether it's been recalled on my Passat. I assume not as it's not documented in my handbook, nor do I have any stickers in the spare wheel well.
