well i understand you,but the car is back home, id have to call and ask the guy...maybe even take it back again...
it needs sorting either way, if its lit up with abs lights come august for MOT time i'll not get it thro the mot...

Just spoke to the garage, the mechanic told me their diagnostic equipment wouldn’t communicate with the abs ecu. He said he'd worked at VW dealer for 13 years and he used some VW diagnostic equipment, he didn’t say VAG-Com he said VW and quoted some numbers? Something like Vw 1451 and 1451 or something…

Anyway he said that allowed comms with the abs ecu and the abs system checked out ok.

This then points me back at the dash.

I found a company in kent BBA-Reman, they quoted me £35+vat+carriage to test either the abs ecu or the dash unit. Then a repair of the abs ecu would be £100+vat+carriage or the repair on the instrument cluster would be £150+vat+carriage.

The guy at the garage reckoned say 2 hrs tops to remove and refit the parts once they have been repaired….

So with a couple of hours labour I should be able to get both the dash and abs ecu removed, repaired and refitted. It would take about 4 days to turn round the repair jobs…

Firstly do you guys agree with the garage using the vw software to talk to the car?
    Does anyone recommend BBA-Reman?

    Cheers

good enough for me then mate....

woudl you recommend getting both done at once just to try and nail the problem once and for all? or given the garage said they COULD communicate with the abs would you feel confident the fault lies in teh instrument cluster???

    cheers pal

I am surprised they can comm with the ABS but as I can’t test it myself and they say they can now comm using a 1551 or 1552 then I would have the dash checked out. In my experience it is the ABS ECU.

    just to conclude this topic......
sent off the dash unit and abs ecu to BBA and they found a earth wiring problemon teh abs ecu which was fixed under their £100 fee for checking and fixing known common probs on the abs ecu.
they then checked the dash unit and found no probs, fee for checking that was £35.

you guys were right but i can only go on teh info im given by the guys testing the car.

anyway its been back with me for a few days now and all seems fine.
total price off BBA for fixing abs ecu and checking dash unit, and 2 way courier with insurance was £198, and local garage chagred 1 hour labour total for remove and refit of the parts. so £240 all in.

    happy days.

BBA were very efficient with updates and getting the parts done, cant argue with them at all.
