sharan gearbox problem

can anyone help, while driving today gear change got progessively stiffer, eventually could only get first and second gear but hard to get and change. think it may be linkage problem anyone had same.
1.9tdi has done 100,000 miles so expecting to have some problems

any help much appreciated

Hi I have a Mk 4 Golf GT TDi (2002) Model, and am experiencing the same problem. The car does not move in 1st or 2nd gear, when I put it in 3rd the car moves. Also when I put it in 1st or 2nd it seems really loose like it has not slot in properly.

Have you managed ti fix your car, what was the problem?

on top of the gearbox is the selector mechanisn its like a turret, there is a shaft which runs vertical, this shaft moves up and down and rotates.
there is a bearing at the top which had broken up and siezed it looks like a needle roller.
cost of parts was about £18+ vat (bearing and seal) just a bit akward to, get to 6 bolts hold it in gearbox.
