I know the Avant has 2 mufflers (and thus 2 exit pipes) for improved noise suppression (since we have less isolation from the exhaust than sedans with enclosed trunks).
    No worries at all.

This is all really confusing now - the only thing that stands out from the past few posts is that Jop's is a little older than, e.g. AVO1's and mine (April 09). Quattro clearly isn't the deciding factor (if there even is one).

Does this mean we're heading back to the Audi cheapskate cost-cutting - or could it be that they decided there was some benefit to larger pipes (or issue with the smaller chromes) with the avant's exhaust system as compared to the saloon's?

I'm going to explain all of this to Audi UK and ask for an explanation that's something better than just trotting out that the brochure quotes chrome, so they should be chrome, blah blah... deerstalker and pipe ready!

Look forward to hearing what Audi UK have to say on this.
Let us know how you get on.

Just to add that the exhausts on my recently collected 3.0tdi are chrome, although not particularly shiny.

Today dealer fitted chrome exhausts (at no cost) - so finally a result!
Dealer said it took some negotiation with Audi UK.
They look great & dramatically improve the look of the car from the rear/side.
So, for those trying to resolve this issue - keep pressuring your dealer!

So did you get a replacement cat back silencer fitted? I guess it's more than just slide on tips??

It was a 'while you wait' job - taking less than 10 minutes (including car taken to/from service bay) & I believe that it was just slide on chrome tips (though if that's the case I'm not sure why they need to take it to the service bay - other than it being standard procedure).

This is the first fix issued that we have heard of. How very exciting.

Now.. During the life of this thread We learnt that the old chrome tips did not fit the new exhaust as they are a wider diamater..
So, is this an Audi UK fix with new tip by audi that does fit.
    Or
A 3rd party ebay special issued by the dealer to keep Mr. AZ01 happy??

Your guess is as good as mine at the moment, lets hope we hear more reports of replacement tips.

    Martin

    Diameter is 80mm

I grabbed a quick photo this evening (though doesn't quite do them justice as the light was low)
