    Hi

I've recently purchased an 2000 model S6 avant - a slight upgrade on my old '96 s6! Its a great car, but has an annoying issue associated with the ABS/ESP. Under heavy acceleration, the ABS/ESP warning lights come on and the ESP kicks in to slow the cars acceleration. Tends to happen more between 40mph and 70mph.

I've reviewed a number of other threads, but these seem to focus on the problem of the ESP/ABS staying on until the car is switched off. My lights appear under acceleration and then go out once the car slows. Given that its an auto, i am assuming its not the brake light switch?

I've tried turning the ESP off, but the ABS warning light still comes on. Given than its predominately motorway driving, i would hope thats its not due to traction problems.....! Previous owner had put new tyres on after buckling a wheel - likel to be a cause? there is also a slight judder through the car between 60mph and 70mph which i am assuming is the need to balance the wheels? Could this be contributing?

I'm off to get the readouts, but any suggestions would be appreciated - given the intermittent nature of the problem, i can just see the mechanic's taking some time to resolve this one.

The best thing for you would be to get a diagnostic scan done if you haven't already.

Once we have fault codes, we can work on something.

local dealer (not VAG) has run a crude diagnostic - so far the only fault code is P1857 - MAF problems - not sure what if anything the mass air flow would have to do with trigger ABS/ESP warning lights....

sorry for not responding sooner- thanks for the offer - any chance of a weekend scan? possibly next week? Current update - so whilst accelerating hard, just before the ABS/ESP lights kick in, the car loses power for a brief second, then once the lights are the power comes back but is lurchy - it then clears when i decelerate. Any more ideas?

OK, so the ABS/ESP problem was directly linked to the Mass Air Flow senors - £80 and 20mins at the dealer and all sorted! Heaps more issues to sort however, so i'll post another thread. Still Love the S6 mind!
