    Hi all,

    Ive just been to the VW dealer, told them details of car (2004, RCD 300) i was advised that the stereo aux function wouldnt need activating and just to purchase the parts (1K0 998 940), ie, plug n play. I explained to them that I think it does need activating and I currently dont have a CD changer or Multimedia Interface, etc. Advisor then said to activate the function it would cost £40 (just to activate and no fitting of 1K0 998 940). The parts dept advised that 1K0 998 940 kit costs £30.

    Not too sure whether they know whats going on and so would rather not pay £40 + when they are unsure themselves whereas £17 i think would of been reasonable.

    Decided to look into buying CTAVGUSB009 from Connects2 which has usb and 3.5mm jack input and comes with a usb stick for £61 (£53.99 + £7 delivery)...
    http://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/conne...er-p-8710.html

    Question is will I still need the cd changer/Aux function activating... Is there not specific coding that needs to be changed that anyone knows as my local garage has VCDS and would do it for probably 5-10 quid if not free.

    I did look at getting one of those units too but i was put of by reviews (not that i can remember where) plus i guess you can't navigate usb content?

    At least the part(s) is the same price, I got mine form Vindis Miltion Cambs after spending ages looking for the part no. off my own back and then took it to Vindis VW Sawston Cambs to do the aux enable for 15.63+VAT.

    I was told (on one forum, maybe this one) that unless the radio has had something already working in the aux in socket then it will need turning on, this was unknown on mine because it was secondhand (08 radio in '54 plate car) once all installed it didnt work hence trip to dealer. It took then a mater of minutes while I waited!

    I'd phone them to compare, if your dealer says it will work without enable then get them to write it down and hold them to it

    Cheers.

    I went to my local VW specialist who with a bit of help activated the CD changer/ipod option using VCDS for free. Now if i press the "CD" button twice it trys to search for a CD changer...says "no CDC" the the moment....half way there i hope...bit impatiant so trying to find a way of testing it before I get any cable to see if it actually does work...

    The connections i have are as follows:

    Pin
    1 = clock
    2 = Data in
    3 = CDC Switch
    4 = CD-R
    5 = CD-L
    6 = not used
    7 = Data Out
    8 = not used
    9 = +Ub CDC
    10 = not used
    11 = EARTH
    12 = not used

    i have a connector and 3.5mm cable...etc just unsure of how to connect it all. ..to test whether all this will actually work or not.

    It only uses 3 connections, The instructions refer to them as follows:

    Within the plug,
    Chamber 2 Gray = GND
    Chamber 8 Yellow = Left CH
    Chamber 9 Green = Right CH

    I fit the oem aux in
    Attachment 8625
    1 - Audio signal, left
    2 - Voltage supply, terminal 31, negative
    3 - Audio signal, right

    pretty simple no coding should be required or if it is just add aux in
    if adding a ipod player it just simulates the 6 disc and should just plug and play

    Cheers guys,

    Ive tried kev's method which I have assumed to be two audio inputs into CD-L and CD-R with a earth also. Would i make a difference in short term if not earthed correctly as i have tried this and it has not worked. When i select CD twice it still just says "No CDC"..then goes back to built in CD.

    A8tech..which headunit is that diagram intended for, dont seem to recognise what it is. Although your wiring method seems to be same as Kev's. I have RCD300 (without MP3, and not with silver buttons), never had a cd changer or ipod interface connected. Just had the CD changer/Ipod function activated today. Now I am able to press CD button twice for HU to attempt to connect to CDC.

    this is how i have tried wiring so far..
    Audio input left and right into CD-R & L with an earth directly beneath the connection for CD-L. (pic is borrowed)

    Well thats the problem then! It has been metioned several times in the thread that the VW AUX-IN kit that Kevster has is only to be used with the 2007 Model Year onwards 'silver button' RCD300/ RCD500 head units.

    I think that the default behaviour of the RCDs is to display "NO CDC" when you press CD twice (or is it press and hold?) and there is no cd changer present.

    As proved it seems not, it would appear that the RCD 300 older type before 2007 was suitable for external CD changer only, not aux in.

    Unless there is another part for older type, but prop not.
    As i said i had to find all info out for the 2007 MY one, i told the dealer as they were no help to me.

    Nice to get the correct info from the guys who should know!

    Hi All

    Had a look through on here about ipod and or aux in adapters for the RCD300 (black no silver buttons) and can now report that this part will provide you with aux in (I have this installed and that the one ending 009 will give you full ipod control.

    Both are plug and play and will only need earthing (very simply attach the earth to chasis of the radio.

    The 004 kit will however not display aux in but emulate your cd changer with only disc 1 being usable. Quality is next none (brilliant imho). The 009 kit will enable all 6 cd buttons and will use your playlist as cds with full control being available through the stearing and or hu.

    I hope this helps...
