I too would like to run an MP3 player into an RCD300 radio. A connect 2 box costs £35 but I'm unsure where to route the cable afterwards. Is the dealer part cable mentioned earlier a better option (if only that it gives a socket in the glovebox)? If anybody does have a suitable cable going spare, or further advice, I'd be interested. Also, it already has a CD changer in the armrest - any advice on how to remove this?

As far as I'm aware I plugged my Aux in in to the CD changer port so it would make your changer unusable anyway. (mine was a RCD500). I looked at the connect2 but saw no gain for me. As i think I mentioned above and in pictures the lead runs to a connector to fit the female block/socket that replaces the light in the glove box. You can then plug in a male jack plug (it's stereo), with a lead length of your choice.
That's what i do if friends want to use their mp3 in my car.

I wasn't bothered about the whole control feature - ie i don't have an ipod, quite happy with mp3 discs.

Will this retro fit work with the newer '3rd gen' radios, RCD 210, 310 and 510?

I don't know for sure but if this jack input is still an option on these 3rd gen headunits then i don't see why not. It may however require some different parts/part numbers, ie if you retrofit a gen 2 with a 3 you need different connections on some leads. Could check with a dealer or someone may know on here?

    Hi Kevster 140,

What headunit was the ""rep.set" part No: 1K0 998 940" fitted to? and did you need to change coding on the unit using VCDS, etc, in order to enable the AUX function. Reason for asking is the connects2 product has a control unit attached to the cable wheras this kit doesnt. I have the RCD 300 (without MP3 function) which doesnt have AUX IN pins, just CD changer function which apparantly needs to be tricked into thinking a changer is still attached which would explain the extra gubbins on the connects2 product......

    Cheers.

    Hi,

Mine was fitted to 2008 Model year Headunit, RCD 500 (built in CD changer) with mp3

The description in the instructions for the retrofit kit is as follows:

"Aux-in connection socket in the golf (1K) Golf plus (5M), Caddy (2K), Touran (1T) from November 2006, Passat (3C) Radio from Model year 2007 (multifunction button in silver)
Radio navigation system with colour display from MY 2004"

In other words golf, caddy, touran or passat radios from 2007 onwards with the silver buttons
    and nav radios from 2004
There is no obvious split between radio RCD300 or RCD 500.

I believe that the Aux-in function does plug in the same socket that would be the CD changer but of course check this with the dealer, i had no need for a changer as well.
I did have to have the Aux-in function turned on by the dealer too cost, £17.

The advantage of the main dealer version is it makes a neat job of the earth, the connects 2 by memory you have to make your own earth connection.

Do you mean connects 2 CTVVGX004, if so this is what i was considering but i preferred the method of mounting the 3.5mm jack socket neatly. The box of the unit is the converter i guess, not sure what you mean by extra.

    Kev.
