I know it probably depends on a lot of factors but I Was just curious if anyone can give me guidance on how much i might get if my car is written off.

I was rear ended, and consequently hit the car in front also. Everyone involved was fine though so thankfully. I asked the recovery chap what he though and he said it was touch and go.

Lets say for this posts sake it is written off, how much can i expect for it?

    Audi A3 2.0 TDI Sport. 80,000 Miles. 54 Plate. 3Door.
If you need any more details than that, let me know!

    Cheers.

Last year our car was written off after being rolled by a empolyee (a subaru forester). Weeks before the accident i got offered a lowly £2500! It was a rough old dog that was used as a pool car at work and we wanted to swap it for a newer car.

Prior to the accepting the insurance company's offer I printed of the sales details of five identical cars from Autotrader, all were priced at £5500-6000. After a couple of calls to the insuracne company they paid out £5000 which i thought fair as the cars i showed them had warenttees and the price would have been haggled down a bit (you have the advantage of no trade-in).

My point is: get some evidence of what a replacement car will of same age and similar spec will cost and use it to bargin with the insurance company.

Thank-you engineermk, that is a very good idea.

If it is written off i will do that.

I'm not sure how long it takes to get this information but my car was taken to a garage yesterday to be looked at.

    Fingers crossed.

The insurance company told us it was a write off with-in five days, for us it was obvious. The car rolled so there wasn't a straight panel on the car, and most of the windows and the sunroof were smashed too.

Don't forget to see you if can reclain your policy excess from the driver who hit you as it sounds like you were staionary when it all happened indicating it may have been his fault.

If the police attended, see if you can get their opinion about who was at fault.

There is no doubt about fault, and mine is a non-fault claim, thanks for the tip!

I stopped sharply because the car in front skidded, then he hit me and i then hit the car in front. The police were called and all parties gave the same account of what heppenned so it should be pretty clear cut really. It's all written down as evidence. :-)
