Hi everybody, my missus has recently passed her driving test and now is my chance to hand over to her our Skoda 1.4 16v and get something a bit more kickass, heh heh

I've got £6, 000 max to spend on a reliable motor to get to work in. I do around 17,000 miles per year, most of which is on the motorway. I'm about to pick up a Golf mk4 SE 1.9 TDI (100bhp) in the next few days. Although it's on a 51 plate, it has only done 25K miles (I've yet to have this mileage verified). The dealer is asking £5000, which is about 1K under my total budget. This should leave me with enough cash to get the engine chipped, increasing its output to around 130 bhp

I've searched for younger Golfs but for £5,000-£6,000 I'm limited to cars that have done 40K+ miles.
So my question is - should I go for this car (old but low miles) or look for a younger car with higher mileage?
Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

Well, Although its old with low mileage it is possible, if an old couple owned it, and only ever used it to potter around town. This would mean that it'll have low mileage.

Does the car come with any Service History/Past MOT's will also tell you previous Mileage?

But i would HPI check the car?

This is good relatively cheap service, and pretty easy to use.

Hey! Thanks very much for the link. I'll get all the thing's you've mentioned checked out and see if they tally with what the dealer is claiming.
    Thanks for posting a reply
