    Hi All,

I have a bizarre problem and not being mechanically minded will throw myself at the mercy of this forum, I had my car serviced and MOT'd in April with the car 1 month shy of 3 years old and done 35'500 miles. On the service sheet it had a notice saying cambelt due at 3 yrs or 40'000 miles.

Firstly is that right? I have a Passat 06 TDI 140 Sport.

So I ring my dealer back the next month for a quote which was £299 (any good?) however they won't do it on a Saturday and as I work away this is no good, so I ring a dealer local to where I am working (Yeovil - Loders, any opinion?) they ring me back saying my engine doesn't have a cambelt!

Now incidentally there is nothing in my service schedule about belt replacement other than for the petrol engines...

Any help would be appreciated as it's now end of June and my car has done 42'000 miles...

    /DG

First your engine does have a cambelt, and if it snaps it's basically new engine time.

Secondly, as far as I'm aware cambelt intervals are every 4ys/60k miles whichever comes 1st.

And thirdly £299 is not a bad price, but does it include the waterpump?

    HTH.
Nothing to see here, move along..

    Hex69,

No they made no mention of water pump, but I have read lots about recommending to get it done so I will probably get updated quote...

How do I go about confirming interval as my local dealer said it is 3yr / 40k which seems very low to me?

Had mine done including the water pump at 70,000 miles at a haggled price of £319.00..They told me 80,000 miles to replace cam belt..but mine is a 1.9 passat on a 06 july registered plate..again £299 is a good price and its guaranteed by vw if any problems..make sure they stamp your book at the back section to comfirm date of change as they sometimes miss this.
