Ok to shed some light on the DSG issues which seem to be expensive to fix. I've run this pole. That's if it works otherwise this is going to look pretty stupid.

    Yes, ongoing.

Still under warranty at the moment, so not cost - other than time and aggravation having to take it back to the dealer.

Not sure the options cover me - almost 15k miles so far, a bit jerky on occasion but not undriveable and still liking the power and economy.

The mechatronic unit has been replaced already, apparently, but I'm still having problems.

Me too. The major lurching, banging into gear and shuddering have gone with the new Mechatronic unit, but I still find the whole package very clumsy. It sometimes bangs into gear, changes down roughly and the worst thing I find is that the car will roll back or forward on even a slight incline when the automatic hold has disengaged and I'm not wellying the throttle. That part of it is disconcerting at the best of times, especially when manoeuvering in tight spaces.

I recently went on holiday to Sussex (wow!) and we decided to take my wife's Garmin Nuvi GPS because the onboard Passat MFD2 Sat Nav is just so difficult to program and never seems to pick up any traffic signal (and yes, I have set it correctly) and the graphics on the sat nav are just rubbish. I find it easier to program the Garmin in the house the previous night rather than spending the whole evening sitting in the car twiddling knobs and failing miserably to find a POI which I know must be there, but doesn't appear on the MFD2 unit.

After just 4 months of ownership I'm ready to cut my losses and get something I'll be happy with. Thinking about an A6. I just want a car which does the job it should. I don't enjoy complaining, but I seem to have to do a lot of it.

I have to add my first DSG problem to this thread.

I was approaching a roundabout and realised I did not need to stop so I continued to accelerate as the DSG was changing down through the gears

as I accelerated it felt like I was hit from behind, there was a sharp jolt, there were no other cars behind me so I am assuming it was the DSG

will try and recreate this scenario and if it happens again I will take my car to the dealers to see what they say

but reading the other DSG threads, it will be hit and miss with their diagnosis.

I live in Manchester so have access to many dealers can anyone recommend a good one? as I dont mind driving to find a good garage

I have had this Passat with DSG for almost three years and 30k miles and it has, perhaps luckily for me, been great.

My only small complaint would be that it is sometimes slow to engage and provide drive when reversing up a slope, especially if the autohold is engaged. It can also knock slightly if you engage reverse when rolling forward slightly but this is perhaps not really a good idea anyway!

...or maybe not, it would seem.

The garage are now telling me the mechatronic unit needs replacing. When I mentioned that they had already replaced it, they told me that they hadn't!
