So a week last Friday I was out on lunch and the car wont start. Turns and turns, and eventually fire but ran like a bucket of bolts. Streight into Liverpool VW for diagnostics...its all good cos I have a warranty dont I?

Turns out all 4 injectors need replacing and the short story is that the warranty company decide that all 4 cant go at once, so they will only pay the labour and replacement of 1 along with the wiring loom.

Leaves me with a bill for about £1600 and VW wont contribute to the cost either.

Oh, and the fix that I need for the airbag they wont cover either, turns out its a wiring fix and they dont cover `wiring`, even though thay are paying for a new injector wiring loom...and I pay extra to have airbag system cover.

    Next time, I`m getting a `kin Honda !

Hmm...I was just about to take out a 3 yr warranty with warranty wise, at the cost of ~£700, and now reconsidering. To be honest though I am not sure if any of the warranty companies are of any use. There is poor feedback about warranty direct as well.... The only decent warranty I ever had was offered by Citreon on a Citreon. that paid when the Citreon suspension got a bit worn out. The only other warranty I tried to claim on was a Honda one for a Prelude, which failed to pay up as I missed a service by 800 miles (the limit was 750),

Have you tried just getting the one injectore fixed then making another claim.... if only one injector can fail at a time...you should get them all done after 4 claims?

    Best of luck!

Have you tried writing to trading standards?

What's the mileage on the car too - are these likely to be "unfit for purpose"?

Well, it all only came to light yesterday, so I`ll be sending letters of complaint and all the rest, I dont expect my chances to be much good though.

Car has 78k on the clock, I`ve asked for the bad injectors to be kept so that if I can afford it, I`ll get them tested independantly.

Hmm - at 78k, I don't like your chances I'm afraid. It might be worth trying a local scrapyard....

I find it odd that all 4 have failed though - that points to a bad batch more than anything.

I also have a policy with Warrantywise for my Passat '06' model (140, TDI, Sport) and recently had reason to claim as a warning light came on while I was on the M25. The AA, who attended to me, advised me to not drive the car (I had to cancel my meeting in Southampton that day), towed me back to London and suggested the wheel bearings needed to be checked. VW Dovercourt (Battersea, London) confirmed this and replaced the wheel bearings and a CV boot.

When I claimed, Warrantywise initially only authorised the claim for the wheel bearings - stating they don't cover CV boots (as they apparently do state this in the T&Cs - but then who reads all that?). However, as the authorised amount was only for about half my claim I complained (including to Quentin Willson), and as I'd luckily taken out MOT cover as an addition to my policy (which apparently does cover CV boots), they subsequently paid!

Quentin Willson said he'd personally looked into my claim and I received a couple of messages from him, too. Overall, I'm quite satisfied now with Warrantywise and definitely glad I took out the policy.

I was let down by Warranty Wise twice and wouldn't touch them again with a barge pole. I should have taken them to the small claims court but never had the time. valves were faulty [wear and tear] and the auto boot lock were not covered [wear and tear/ wrong computer] were given as reasons even though Ford said that they would have covered them under their warranty !

I've heard about this injector issue before. I just don't buy it that all 4 can fail, at the same time. The odds are too long to make it credible...........unless you had contaminated fuel or some other issue and that managed to b*gger the whole lot in one go. It simply doesn't make sense otherwise.

Regarding warranty, I looked into this when my car got to three years and decided against getting the warranty and felt I might be better off putting £50 to one side every month instead. This will give me an emergency pot if something major goes wrong, and at least I can trust myself to pay out!

Might be worth doing a search on here. I'm sure one of the guys who knows about these things suggested just changing the loom before going to the expense of new injectors.

Rule of thumb...Always replace the cheapest bits first especially electrical bits.....the loom is a common problem on PD engines.
