My glow plug light started to flash today, and then stopped flashing then used the car again and it started flashing again. Having read a few posts, it could be the brake lights but they are all ok. Or even the brake light switch which I guess has a fault?

Well i have changed the brake light switch as read on other posts but still no joy. I am now going to get the pump checked out and I am guessing that it is going to be faulty.
Does anyone have any idea how much and where to get one from I am thinking it will be around the £450 ish.

Before you throw more money at the car get it scanned for faults, this
will give you an idea what is wrong instead of just changing bits until its fixed.

Had the car plugged in yesterday and 2 faults showed up
Low fuel sensor and missfire came up now going to have the injector pump plugged in to see if it is faulty. The car will now not start, other members who say they have been driving for months with the light flashing, I am sure that they are causing more damage than good. If I do have to get a new pump has anyone got a company they can reccomend.

with the mk 1v golf/bora/jetta whatever, you would be correct, but the A4,
i believe,is different, and the flashing glow plug light could mean different things.
you must get it code read. don't jump in changing this and that.
the code system is there for a purpose.
to save you money, believe it or not.
    hope it's not too bad,
    regards,
    stewy.

having just had the car plugged in again and checked there are 3 faults

02IE needle lift sensor on cylinder 3
    05A2 missfire fuel shortage
    05A1 fuel shortage sensor

so i am now going to do the needle lift sensor first
when i try to start the car it will start after about 10 to 17 seconds which makes me think that while
the car is turning over the pressure is building up in the pump then it starts?
So maybe it has nothing to do with the needle lift sensor
