    Hi A8,

I agree - Stoke Audi have always delivered great service for me over the past 10 years, and still continue to do so. The two Audi Master Techs I have have been in contact with so far (Stoke's and another one from the North West somewhere - who could that be?) have proved themselves to be extremely professional, knowledgable, helpful and friendly!

What was that last bit about a B6 tub having issues? My radio reception's not too good and the signal broke up

Well, I have my car back now, after a very misleading discussion with the service receptionist. When he called to say the car was ready, he informed me that a couple of new cables had been fitted and a new radio unit, although he couldn't quite remember exactly what the tech told him because he'd been out to lunch in the meantime, so I asked him to clarify things and let me know when I picked the car up.

When I arrived, he showed me a file of papers an inch and a half thick, and told me it was the paperwork for my car so far. He got me to sign a warranty document stating that the 5F unit had been replaced, and told me that's what had been done. When I told him it had already been replaced a few weeks ago, he looked confused, and told me it must have been done again.

I then asked about what the "Recall 9316" mentioned on the original worksheet entailed, and he browsed his computer screen for a couple of minutes, then triumphantly stated "MMI Software Update!".

Having got the car home, I can confirm that all my jukebox tracks are gone, the bluetooth bonding/phonebook/nav directory entries are all gone, and the nav/radio/volume settings are all back to the factory defaults, which does indeed point to a new 5F unit having been fitted.

The software versions are exactly the same, though:

    Software Version: HNav_EU_K0022_1_D1
    Nav Database Version: 8R0060884C_ECE 5.6.8

    Train Version: K0022
    MU Software: 0047

I plan to have a quiet word with Chris, the Service Manager, and see if he can dig out more accurate information about what's been done this time. He's probably sick of the sight of me by now, but he's always very friendly even so!

I will monitor the car's radio reception/TMC/TP over the next few days and report back on latest findings...

And the news is... radio reception is definitely better (I was receiving TP bulletins from Radio WM this morning when leaving home), but the problem is unchanged. I lost TMC this afternoon, and when I did an "Update station list" on the radio, it lost all stations bar the one I was listening to.

I just got back in touch with Stoke Audi, and ended up speaking to the same service receptionist who handed my car back yesterday. His response was "Well, we've tried everything now, there's nothing else to do", but then he mentioned he had been called by Audi UK today regarding my car. I asked him what they had said and his answer was "Ummmm...... Errrr.... ummmm.... I can't remember, sorry." <sigh!>

He has promised to have a word with the Master Tech to update him on the situation with my car, then get back to me. Hope he remembers what the Tech says to him!

With a bit of luck, the Master Tech may call me direct (I hope!). I'm also tempted to call Audi UK to see if I can get to the bottom of the phone call today too. I'm guessing Leaseplan have got them involved.

I will report back when I have more news.

    Hi Mark

    Not much change there then....

When is the penny going to drop that replacing the hardware (apparently more than once in your case) is not the answer, and maybe consider that the current software version may be the problem?

I specifically asked the service mgr at Nottingham to query this with Audi, and whether it's possible in my case to roll back to the original factory version. He hasn't got back to me yet.

    Hi Steve,

If Nottingham Audi can install the old software, I'd be very interested to see if the problem goes away. It's happening quite frequently on my car now - seems to be more often than before the software update was done, although I have no empirical evicence to back this up, so it's entirely subjective.

No further news from my dealer, although I wouldn't be surprised if the receptionist forgot to pass on the the master tech that I called to say I still have the problem (bless him!)

    hi,
had a call from Audi about my problem and they have asked me to compile a full fault report.
i have completed this and sent it off to them via my local dealer, not sure what the next step is as they did not say.
So guess i need to wait, i will give them a call next week if i do not get any calls.

I just called Leaseplan to ask for an update - it's been three weeks and I'd heard nothing from them.

The girl on Customer Services looked up my case and read out to me the log entry "Radio does not pick up local stations when the car travels out of the area. The driver (my name) has been advised of this and agreed to close the case."

What???? Perhaps they spoke to the other MF with the same name, address and employer as me who secretly also drives the car and he agreed to close the case? lol

I've asked them to reopen the case and get in touch with me. I don't know what transpired last time, so let's wait and see what happens now...

I'm on a roll today. I called my dealer to ask for an update, and they want the car back in to fit some amplifiers. It's going in on Friday morning to have the job done.

    I will keep you posted.

The car went in this morning to have the antenna amplifiers (re)fitted. This had been tried before, then they had been removed again after a back-to-back test against another A6. Audi Technical instructed that they should be re-fitted to see if it makes a difference, hence the visit this morning. While I was waiting, I took a pic to show my car's second home

    IMG00042.jpg

After the amps were fitted, I drove the 9 miles from the dealer to home, and by the time I got home, TMC had disabled, and selecting "Update station list" a few times resulted in the usual truncated list of FM stations, so the problem is completely unchanged.

I contacted the dealer when I got home, and I'm waiting to hear back from them on what the next step is...
