    Hi All,

Heard from Audi CS today that the "June" release of the software has been put back to mid August (at the earliest) by the factory.

Thanks for the update. I e-mailed the service mgr at Nottingham last week to ask if he had any new information - he said he would get back to me (hasn't yet). My car is booked in for late August for investigation of a problem with the Bose audio - only the front base speakers are working, so the sound is below par. There seems to be problems with the audio memory too, like the volume setting for spoken nav cues, which has to be reset constantly. Booking time is depressingly long at Nottingham - over a month. Ho hum.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to contact my dealer in the next few days to see what they say about the update. If they say anything different I will be back...

    Cheers!

Hdd update will be available mid august and dvd nav is available now using revision p update disc.

Both of these are repairs for the now turn left and I will say Audi software division are working hard to resolve this issue as some of you know the recent fix was unsuccessful and pulled as a suggested repair.

I will say that lots of people behind the scenes in the dealerships and the importer are pushing and hoping the next release will resolve the problem as to my mind mmi is the best system in any vehicle on the market and this problem has been reported heavily from the network.

You lot are the reason we have jobs in the dealers so it matters and I know how hard Audi are trying to improve and become the market leaders so they will deliver or I will eat my hat lol.

I love Audi as manufacturer and they make great systems but problems occur when pushing innovation.

Today I have been showing a customer how to use the 3G+ A8 system including the mouse function and he was boggled, it got me thinking on the way home in my van with the very basic requirements, how far we have come in the recent years

I also get a sneak peek into the future systems and its going to be fun lol.

    Farewell for now

Thanks to all for the various updates on this. I've been watching this thread for a while now, hoping someone will soon announce that they've finally got the update and it's all fixed.

A8 tech is right that Audi seem to have a really good system in the 3G MMI, notwithstanding the odd bug, but one problem with all this high-tech electronics is that it seems to be way beyond the understanding of at least some of the dealers. None of the dealers I've dealt with in owning my previous BMW or the current Audi have a clue how this stuff works, so getting them to detect or fix faults is a struggle.

As an example, when I bought my B8 S4 Avant last year, my local dealer didn't have a clue about the 3G system. When doing the hand-over, I asked them two questions about the card slots:

"Are the SD card slots compatible with SDHC (the high capacity, >2GB) cards?" The saleman said he wasn't sure, but probably not. Wrong. Experiment shows that SDHC cards work fine.

"Does the SIM card slot mean I can just put a GSM sim into the car and use it as a carphopne without a BlueTooth connection to a mobile?" The saleman said No. Wrong again.

They also ordered the car without the DAB radio I'd specified. When I collected it, they swore that they could retrofit it and make it come right. I asked what this involved, having had a previous bad expertience with BMW dealers incorrectly fitting options and breaking trim in the process. He claimed it involved removing the MMI unit from the dash. Wrong again - the DAB radio is a MOST bus box that lives in the boot.

After three dealer visits for them to try fitting the DAB option, they finally gave up without success. During this process, it became clear to me that they'd no idea whatsoever how the system works, and they either couldn't or didn't get help from Audi. First they claimed it was just a software upgrade (wrong). Then they said they needed a software upgrade and to fit an antenna amplifier modules. Better, but still wrong. Actually you have to exchange the radio module for a different box the same shape but with the additional DAB function and DAB antenna connection, fit the antenna module, and (I think) update the software in the MMI controller. Even after I'd found this out by rummaging in EKTA and ELSAWIN bought from ebay and told them, they still couldn't get it to work and just gave up. Hopeless. The "fully trained Audi technicians" is just a joke for this lot.

Hence I'm waiting to know the upgrade details that fix this problem before I let them get their hands on the car again. If I can tell them exactly what upgrade they need to do, just maybe they can get it right without breaking anything. I live in hope.

A8 tech sounds like he really does understand. If only he worked for my local dealer!

How's that for a first post?

    A.

adding dab to 5f also requires the long code change which the dealer will not be able to do, also it will over right every time the vehicle has a 5f flash update or svm test.
If your interested then it can be done but I advise the dealer to contract it to one of the known retrofit outfits who know how to encode 5f to allow dab
The fitment is easy but the encoding is tricky and not many will openly give details of how its done as is the same for adding bluetooth and ami to 5f
Kufatec will enable 5f control units but you have to send the unit to them.
I would advise them to contract the dab out to craigyb website http://www.tclsatnav.com/
    Thanks for the kind comments

Just found this thread while looking for info on a hdd map update. I'm glad I am not the only one with the TP/TMC/Tuning issue and the turn left issue. I drive 60k miles a year so you can imagine how frustrating it is.

I have never tried to get the problem fixed because I visit a lot of Audi dealers for work and after asking at the first few all I got were blank expressions - some did not even know there was an hdd option for the A6.

A8 Tech proves that there are Audi master techs out there worthy of the name, but in my experience they are few and far between.

Anyway, hopefully the new update when it arrives will cure the problem - my only challenge will be persuading my dealer to install it for me.

My colleagues all have TomToms and like nothing better than sending me just a postcode and forcing me to ring them for the full address - your nav system cost HOW much is the usual comment!

    Welcome to our exclusive club!

You shouldn't have a problem persuading your dealer to install the update to the softwre - just tell them that you car exhibits the "now turn left" voice prompt problem and the radio retuning/TMC/TP dropout issues.

Your colleagues sound like a great set of jokers. Ask them to show you Big Ben on their tomtom!

    Cheers!

I can add my experience to the TP off workaround. Did home to Nottingham yesterday and home to Plymouth today and TMC stayed active and the radio retuned correctly. I do the Nottingham trip regularly and it would certainly have needed re-tuing 3 times each way before.

Moving slightly off topic but I think still relevant does anyone know how to stop the radio or media player coming on everytime you switch on the ignition, even if it was muted when you switched off? I have asked at the dealer - "nah thats just how they are mate!"
