I have an annoying oil leak on my A6. It appears to be coming from the rear of the engine, I have removed the bottom cover to aid my search. Since doing this this the 'tell tale' drops on the floor are in line with the four holes in the bottom cross member. Which leads me to the leak being somewhere above this, but I cant see anything. Looking on to top with the cover removed everything looks okay. I had a look on here and a few people appear to have had problems with breather pipes, could this be my problem? If so does anyone have a picture of where they are located? All comments welcome!!

Engine code would help. It is on the service book or the label in the spare wheel bay. However your most common source of a leak, assuming the leak is oil not deisel, is the cam covers either the gasket or an injector to cam seal or the sump or the exhauster pump to head gasget at the rear of the forght head. Hi Shaka1976, Check that the "O"ring on the crankshaft timing plug hasn't perished, 10mm ring -key. It's just above the crossmember.

Also worth checking the turbo oil return o ring in the head. Difficult to see but if there's oil around the bottom of the pipe it could be...... I found easiest way to replace is to remove turbo, only takes a coulpe of hours, one awkward bolt holding turbo to manifold. o ring part no is 035115427 £1.19, or it's a 15mmX2.5mm o ring

Another thing regarding oil breather. Remove oil filler with engine running, is there a lot of pressure? If so replacing the breather will help reduce the leak.
    Been there done that!!!!!
