    Hi all,

New to this forum, just purchased an Audi S4 Cab 2004. I have noticed when pulling away the revs seem to rise and fall, almost as if the engine is compensating for not enough throttle!

This only seems to happen after the car has been driven for a while, its fine from cold!

At first I though it was me not balancing the clutch very well, as the biting point is quite high, however I don't thik this is the case.

I have heard of this before on other cars, its normally something to do with one of the sensors?

Has anyone come across this before or can offer any insight?

    Kind regards,

    Ian

If the revs are rising and falling after you have let the clutch in then my guess would be the clutch slipping. Doing it when warm is also a good indication (hot clutches slip more than cold ones).

The best way to test clutch slip is to set off as normal, get upto around 30mph, put it in 5th and floor the gas hard and fast....

If the rev's jump up or seem to be bouncy the clutch is slipping..

if its slipping.. get it done asap, and more than likely the fly wheel will need changing..... aint cheap

Hi Guys and thanks to you both for your response.

I'm not sure that it is the clutch however as the car drives perfectly other than this. There is no sign of slipping when on the move, even if drive hard

Maybe its the first stages (and this is how it represents its self??), but it seems more like a sensor issue trying to compensate for the labour of pulling away by raising the revs?

Anyway, I guess the best bet is to get it to my local Audi dealer to have it checked out.

There is a balance of the extended Audi warranty left on it, so I was going to get them to give it a once over anyway to see if there is anything that need doing!

Does anyone know of anything particular that I should get them to look for?

    Kind regards,

    Ian
