    Why does audi use haldex rather than quattro? surely wheels being driven all the time is more of a benifit?

    'Cos the A3/TT which uses Haldex are just Golfs in drag...

    The smaller transverse engined cars use Haldex, i.e. Golf and A3.

    The bigger longditudinal (if that is how you spell it?) engined cars use a conventional (proper) Quatro system i.e A4, A6 and Passat.

    So the Haldex and Quatro systems are used by both VW and Audi all at the same time.

    Not so sure about the newer stuff though.

    I believe the name of Quattro given to the longitudinal engine mounted cars is Torsen (TORque SENsing ). This is a mechanical system rather than an electrical system (Haldex).

    Torsen uses a torque sensing differential, so if that's what you mean by centre diff, then yes it does.
