Does anyone know if a green temp sensor has the same thermal properties as a black one?. GSF only had a green 4 - pin one which I hope may fix my intermittent temp gauge.

My temp guage is also a bit 'iffy' and the dealer wants £25 for a new sensor.

I'm fairly sure different colours have different characteristics and if two of the four pins feed the ecu you might have performance issues.

Can anyone confirm or deny this?

I’ve got this problem on my 2002 A4 1.8T and the car seems to kick out allot of un-burnt fuel in the style of white smoke when idling for a few mins, fine whilst driving along. I don’t think its HGF as the coolant isn’t dropping so it leaves me with the idea that the temp sender is telling the ECU that the car is still cold causing a richer mix, hence the white smoke and heavy smell of un-burnt fuel.

I hope I’m right but I can’t think what else it could be. My gauge is so dodgy, it’s annoying as I can’t see if the cars over heating etc.

Neways, it’s booked in at a local garage on Thursday for a VAG diagnostic.

Hopefully, it’s just the temp sensor messing things up!

    Many thanks

Hi guys - don't know if this is any help now but I've just been to an Audi dealer and got a new ECT sensor for my '03 A4 130 PD and they gave me a green one. It was about £29 all in which was cheaper than ordering it from Europarts etc. Plan to fit it myself - just trying to get a few pointers from elsewhere on this forum.

    Cheers.
