Hi, well i have had my 2004 1.8T Quattro s-line for 4 months now and am loving it!! Just had a cambelt fitted including tensioners and rollers etc (£250 all in). The waterpump had been replaced by the previous owner with a metal impellored one so saved me a few quid there.

It had a full service by Basingstoke Audi in dec. 08. (longlife) i am going to change the oil on a regular basis, every 6 months (approx 5K miles) with Quantum longlife 111 fully synthetic.

What oil filter will i need?

Do i need to replace the sump plug?

I have use of a sort of endescope from work and will poke it up the sump plug hole to check the oil pickup filter.

Hopefully this 1.8T will do 180K plus like my second car (also 1.8T)

On the filter front, many on here comment on using Audi OEM - so the dealer will be ale to supply the exact part. However, if you want some other options - try punching the reg into eurocarparts - or speaking to one of the group sponsors....there's loads of choice.

Personally I've never replaced a sump-plug on any of the cars I've had - just replaced the washer or seal - but they seem to be replaced on the services I've had and don't seem expensive, so perhaps it wouldn't hurt.

    Cheers,
    Dan.

Cheers for the reply Danclyon, i was going to use a genuine filter, i thought i had read on a post before about using a diesel filter in the 1.8T engines (maybe i was mistaken) is there a difference between the filters used in longlife compared to fixed servicing?

As for the sump plug, i have always just replaced the copper was on my 1996 1.8T, but again i have read on this site that you should replace the whole sump plug! don't know why, can anyone answer this one?

Having a 1.9TDi I'd know nothing about using the diesel filter in the petrol engine tbh. I believe the only diff on longlife is the oil - which is something akin to pouring liquid gold into your tank in terms of cost

    Cheers,
    dan.

the only difference is the oil, the rest is the same, when i did my service, i found that price at audi only slightly more expensive than other places, i used vagparts b4 they closed. had to replaced sump plug each time as cant just remove washer,
