    Afternoon all,

I had the pleasure of taxing the Skoda this morning, to put it on the road for the first time in 3 years!

Anyway, it was never SORN'd, and while off the road, was obviously not taxed.

After taxing it, I was warned by the person at the post office that I should contact the DVLA, as they may come after me for back tax of road tax.

Obviously I'm not going to make the first move, but has anyone any experience of this?

I'll be mortified if I have to pay MORE tax than I already am. After all, I've only owned it since October, so its not me that should be responsible for the road tax is it?

well, the person you purchased it off assured you that it was declared sorn, didnt he!so when you bought it you had no reason to contact dvla, as you had filled in the reg document and got it back in your name, and thats all there is to buying a car. youve now fixed it and taxed it, which entitles you to drive it. dvla will have the previous owners details on record, and if he didnt declare it sorn, then they will be after him. the problem is with sorn, you dont get anything to confirm it is sorn, like a tax disc to put in the window that states sorn. i think you get a letter, but these are easily lost. hopefully you will be ok.
