News new EC legislation coming in 2010 stopping independent garages having the right to access to technical information such as codes.

Sign the petition: here's the link: http://www.r2rc.co.uk/home/content/view/27/97/

The extended video makes it plain what at stake.

    spud,
i saw this last year, and raised it on the forum, the legislation, not the petition.
it does seem though that the codes,at least the current ones, are widely available on the web,and it won't make a great lot of difference to the independants.
i hasten to add that i was in the same frame of mind,if the codes changed,
the dealer would have you over a barrel, but it seems it only needs access
to one car/ecu, and all will be well somehow?
    regards,
    stewy.

    Stewy,

It will make it a lot more hassel for the indepenants with all the codes there are. also I'm sure that they can make things a lot more tricky once they don't have to give out the codes, plus the future is the day after tommorrow or that's how it seems sometimes.

    Regards,

    spud.

i have spoke to the snap on reps and they have said this will not cause any problems as they dont use dealer codes. they take a car and induce faults to find out what all the codes are rather than using the dealer info. these are then sent to their customers at the next device update.

That is reassuring but I still think we should all sign the petition so that the codes are accessible by law. I think it's a stupid change to EC protection law. We let these things go at our peril.

P.S. I get the hang of this font and size choosing eventaully, at the moment I can never seem to find the one I want
