    hi all my petrol flap wont go back in properly
    it opened ok but now doesn't clip shut
    any one know what it might be

    To me it sounds like the lock/release mechanism on the flap is in the closed position, so not allowing the flap to return. I assume you've tried pressing the release button a few times (by the handbrake)? When it is pressed, does it make any sound, like a short whirring noise? I'm sure you know the noise. If there is no noise, then I'd start there - fuse, power to release motor etc.
    2003 VW Golf Est 1.9 TDI 130 (gone but not forgotten after 379,000 miles)
    2006 Audi A3 2.0 TDI Sport 140
    2015 Audi A6 Avant 2.0 TDI ultra 190

    yes i have tried pressing the release button
    there is a noise there but it just doesn't clip back in

    As far as I know, you'd have to remove the trim to access the mechanism and see what's physically wrong with it and why it's stuck in the closed position.

    ok do i remove the trim in the boot or the rubber around the petrol flap?

    Access to the actuator unit and release rod is from the inside, so yes, from the boot.
