    evenin all,

help needed again, I ve had my 2.0 petrol Bora for a couple of months now.

I bought it at 42K, its had an OK level of service (in paper work the car overheated last year due to faulty water pump, which got fixed along with the timing belt being done-apprently (not at VW tough) ).

Now, since ive had the car there has been a constant whine sound comming from the engine bay which is definately related to the engine speed. the higher the rev the more apperent the whine rythm. over a certain speed the whine cannot be herd due to road noise but it is always there. from start, no matter what the temp and it is very apperent out side the car.

recently, I noticed that there was a little Chirping sound that would come for a few second when i switch the engine off (sort of like a pulley comming to a stop?).

can any one make anything out of the symptoms above?

(the whine sounds a bit like the power steering pump, but there is no difference in the noise when steering is applied) could is be the alternator? the aux belt not being tensioned correctly? a bearing? a timing belt issue?

I just dont have the cash to be going to anyone to sort this out really.

    thanks.

Some alternators have an integrated one-way clutch on the pulley wheel

thanks Pon, is there a way of me testing the alternator to see if it is at fault?

I mean i have tried to put my ear close to the alternator and listen out, but i cant seem to put a finger on it.

if anyone else has any ideas, dont be shy.
