    Hi.
1.9 tdi touran of a 2004 vintage. At the weekend one of the fans in the engine bay decided it would continue to run and refuses to stop unless I disconnect the battery. It is the one (of two) on the drivers side (uk spec right hand drive). Ive tried pulling all the fuses, one at a time, and this didn't stop it. The local garage said (after contacting the local VW dealer) that it was likely to be the relay and replaced that but on it goes. I ran the hex-com diagnostics and it just came up with some glow plug alarms that I presumed were un related.
Has anyone any ideas? I can't understand where it is getting power from if I removed the fuse (after trawling the web to find out which fuses did what because it doesn't list them in the handbook!).

Hi I have experienced when a fault code is logged in the ECU the fan can be activated.Having said that, I have also experienced that a faulty radiator outlet coolant temperature sender G83 also activates the fan.

The fuse 3 on top of the battery, 80 amp and with a thick red wire going to it, your problem is more than likely the fan controller that is built into the larger of the two fans and to buy a new one you get the fan cowling and two fans, they cost about £200 and we fit quite a lot.

Mine has just done the same, fan stayed on continuously, tried all the fuses but still it would not stop.... Took the negative off the battery and finally the fan stopped.

Tried putting the battery back on a few times over 30 mins and after the third go the fan did not stay on.

Started car and then loads of warning lights came on, esp and steering. They went off after a few mins.

Went out for a road test and came back and the fan stopped as i got home with no problems.....

Shall i get it booked in to plug the diagnostics in to check what fault code was logged?

Mine was the fan controller like crasher said. I had run the hex com diagnostics from rosstech and it didn't show anything.
Garage replced it for about £200.
